Windsor Trading was established in 1967 by Phillip Dascal, who arrived in Australia with his family at the age of 48 from Europe. Despite speaking little English and having a limited background in the textiles industry, Phillip started supplying sewing threads using his car as both his office and warehouse. Phillip was, however, an outstanding salesman, and in a very short time he grew the business and required his wife Lilly’s help as well as storage space in East Melbourne. Phillip’s strong sense of integrity and his motto of servicing his customers with their ever-changing requirements to the best of his ability assisted the continued growth of the business, culminating in several moves to increasingly larger warehousing in Fitzroy.
In 1981, Phillip’s sons Raphael and Michael joined the company, and in the ensuing years the business diversified its range of products to include items such as elastic, zips, buttons, woven tapes, and interlinings, as well as other accessories for the clothing and textile industries.
For much of our history, we were a chief supplier to the clothing trade in Australia. As the textiles industry has changed over the years, the company has significantly expanded its product offering and become the leading supplier of sewing threads and related accessories to a broad range of industries.
After outgrowing the Fitzroy warehouse, Windsor Trading moved to a much larger facility in Moorabbin in 2001, where we remain based to this day. The company also added full-time representatives in Sydney and Brisbane around this time, bolstering our position in the eastern states.
Raphael’s son Josh entered the business in 2015, adding a third generation to the company’s proud family tradition. He was joined several years later by Guy, Michael’s son-in-law. Despite remaining a small business in terms of staff for its entire history, we have maintained and expanded our business in an increasingly competitive market by adhering to our founder’s steadfast principles:
